All Richardson Allen painted outdoor site and garden furniture is sealed with a layer of Permanon® high tech surface protectant as a final touch prior to shipment. This nano-engineered silicium solution has a static bond to fill micropores in the paint, repelling U.V. rays, water, dust, dirt, and fingerprints for months. Permanon® surface protection is resistant to nearly all acids, alkaline solutions, solvents, and ultra violet (UV) light. It is non-toxic, non-flammable and solvent free. Permanon is available from Richardson Allen in a convenient, ready spray bottle. We suggest an application with a micro fiber cloth at the beginning of each season. A few minutes of polishing will retain the beauty, and prolong the life, of your Richardson Allen painted furniture finish in the harshest of settings.

For clean-up of coffee rings, food spills (etc.), we suggest washing the affected area with a mix of mild detergent and warm water. Scouring pads and harsh scrub brushes that could scratch the paint should be avoided.

If painted furniture is accidentally dented or scratched, contact Richardson-Allen and we will provide a repair kit of putty and color matched, oil-base paint which can be easily applied, on site, by the customer.

We have had many customers return after more than a decade, and asked that their product be refinished or repainted with a different color. If you would like to have your older Richardson-Allen furniture completely restored, Richardson-Allen we will perform this service upon request at a reasonable price, plus freight and crate, at our site on the Southern Coast of Maine.

Our standard Teak furniture is shipped “Natural”, without any surface finish. Over the course of a year, the Natural Teak will weather to a smooth, silver grey patina. There may be some uneven discolorations during this process, but depending upon the amount of exposure to sun and rain, these discolorations will even out in a matter of months. Wood inevitably expands and contracts with seasonal changes in humidity and temperature. Because of this, tiny hairline cracks may occur at the end of some boards. These character lines will come and go with the seasons, and do not compromise the durability of your furniture. Maintenance is not necessary for the structural longevity of Richardson Allen Natural Teak furniture. However, if stains or mildew occur over time, there are simple steps to restore the furniture. To remove mildew, mix 1/4 cup of bleach with one gallon of water. Spray the furniture with water from a hose and then, using a soft bristle brush, scrub the wet furniture with the bleach solution. When finished, hose down the furniture again.

To remove specific stains or dents in the teak furniture, lightly sand with 80 grit sandpaper until the area is corrected.

If the customer desires, a Teak Sealer can be requested and applied by Richardson Allen for an up-charge. This is an esthetic preference and the sealer will not add to the longevity of the furniture. It will prevent the furniture from graying, but to maintain the color it must be reapplied annually to prevent sealant blotches. This creates a higher upkeep of product but some customers prefer the warmer tone of sealed teak. Teak sealer can be applied on site with a brush.
